ATTACK ON Gelegele-Gbene REPRESENTATIVE AT THE HIGH COURT BENIN: OSAZE AMAS AND UWADIAE IYOHA LED OTEDO YOUTHS UNLEASHED TERROR WHILE POLICE AND EDO STATE GOVERNMENT WATCH. 

The Gelegele-Gbene Community condemns in the strongest terms the unprovoked attack and molestation of our representatives at the High Court Premises, Benin City, by Otedo youths led by Osaze Amas and Uwadiae Iyoha 

We had earlier raised alarm over imminent attack on our people by Otedo youths. The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, and the Edo State Government were complicit by their silence, aiding the attackers without putting any measures in place to protect our people.

Today, our fears have been confirmed. Without any form of provocation, Osaze Amas led his group to attack and molest our representative who were in court for a legitimate legal matter.

We wish to draw the attention of the general public, the Edo State Government, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, and His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to this dangerous, barbaric and disgusting development.

Our Position:

1. The attack on our representatives inside the premises of the High Court is an attack on the judiciary and the rule of law.
2. The failure of the police to provide security despite prior warning makes the Commissioner of Police complicit.
3. Gelegele-Gbene is an Ijaw community founded many many centuries ago. No amount of intimidation will make us abandon our ancestral land.

While we await the immediate response and action of the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, to arrest Osaze Amas and his collaborators, we will consider this attack as an invitation and a direct threat to Ijaw people.

We are peace-loving but we will not fold our hands while our people are molested.

We call on all Ijaw youths to remain calm and law-abiding, but bevigilant.

The incident, reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, throwing the coastal community into panic. While details of the incident remain sketchy as at the time of filing this report, sources within the community confirmed the incident to Sahara Reporters.
