Retired Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have Congratulated Mallam Nuhu Ribadu on his appointment as National Security Adviser (NSA) and appealed to him to use his Strategic Position to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent to the Bill seeking to Exit the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The Appeal was made in Abuja under the Platform of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF).
CONGRATULATIONS ON A WELL-DESERVED APPOINTMENT
They described the Appointment of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as well-deserved, meritorious and a clear testament to his integrity, competence and selfless Service to the Nation.
He said the Forum has implicit confidence in the ability of the NSA to reposition the Nation's Security Architecture and address the long-standing Welfare challenges confronting Retired Police Officers.
PASSIONATE APPEAL FOR PRESIDENTIAL ASSENT TO POLICE EXIT BILL
The Forum disclosed that the Bill to exempt the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme was passed by the National Assembly on 4th December, 2025, and transmitted to the President for assent on 16th March, 2026.
PROF. lamented that while other Security Agencies, including the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), have been exempted from the CPS, the Nigeria Police Force, which remains the lead Internal Security Agency, is still trapped in the Scheme.
He described the CPS as inhumane, dehumanising, exploitative, and a death trap for Officers who Served the Nation for 35 years, stressing that the Bill is not merely a Welfare Reform but a strategic National Security Investment.
RETIREES DYING IN ABJECT POVERTY
Painting a pathetic picture of their plight, the Forum revealed that many Retired Police Officers are dying in abject poverty and penury due to the meagre benefits paid under the CPS.
He said under the current Arrangement, a Retired Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) receives between N2.1 Million as Lump Sum and N30,000 Monthly after 35 years of meritorious Service.
He argued that such poor Retirement Packages are demoralising Serving Officers and undermining effective Policing, intelligence gathering and the willingness to make the ultimate Sacrifice.
FINAL APPEAL TO PRESIDENT TINUBU
The Forum, therefore, passionately appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, in the interest of fairness, justice and National Security, urgently assent to the Bill for the Establishment of the Nigeria Police Force Pension Board to enable the Force to migrate to the Defined Benefits Pension Scheme.
