Hon. David Osia, former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Edo State Governor, has strongly condemned what he described as "unwarranted and unconstructive attacks" against High Chief (Dr.) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, by Mr. Jude Gbayor, Yemi Otuedon, Oliver Fejero, and others.
In a statement made available to journalists, Osia expressed deep concern over the persistent criticisms directed at the Niger Delta leader, insisting that such actions are not in the best interest of the region and its people.
According to him, Tompolo has remained one of the most influential voices for peace, stability, and development in the Niger Delta, and should be supported rather than subjected to unnecessary public attacks.
Osia described Tompolo as a symbol of hope and a unifying figure whose contributions to regional peace, security, and economic development have earned him widespread respect across the country.
"Attacking High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo is the wrong direction. He remains one of the strongest pillars of hope for the Niger Delta region and has consistently demonstrated commitment to the peace and progress of our people," he stated.
The former SSA urged stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, and political actors across the Niger Delta to embrace dialogue, unity, and constructive engagement instead of divisive rhetoric capable of creating unnecessary tension within the region.
He further called on those criticizing Tompolo to channel their energy toward promoting development, empowerment, and sustainable peace, emphasizing that the Niger Delta stands to gain more through collective cooperation than internal disagreements.
Osia maintained that history would continue to remember leaders who have sacrificed for the advancement of the region, stressing that Tompolo's contributions to security, environmental protection, youth empowerment, and economic stability remain significant.
He concluded by appealing to all Niger Delta sons and daughters to close ranks, protect the region's collective interests, and work together in advancing the cause of justice, peace, and sustainable development for present and future generations.
