OPUAMA, EGBEMA KINGDOM, DELTA STATE — Niger Delta leader and Bolowei of Egbema Kingdom, Hon. Emmanuel Omoko, popularly known as “Alhaji Five Star General,” has reaffirmed his commitment to the development and transformation of Opuama Community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, describing community development as a responsibility he owes to his people.
Speaking during the last Oloduwa Day celebration at Opuama town, Hon. Omoko explained that his decision to invest substantially in the development of Opuama is driven by his connection to the community and his conviction that indigenes must take responsibility for the growth of their homeland.
According to him, “If I don't develop my own community, who will develop it for me?”
The Niger Delta leader said every sacrifice he has made toward the development of Opuama is motivated by his desire to see his people live in a community that meets acceptable standards of development and human dignity.
He cited the development of Lagos by Lagosians as an example of what communities can achieve when their sons and daughters take ownership of their development, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's long-standing connection with Lagos demonstrates the importance of individuals contributing to the advancement of their communities.
Today, Lagos is developed by Lagosians. In the same way, I have a responsibility to develop Opuama. I cannot expect somebody from somewhere else to come and develop Opuama for Opuama people,” Omoko stated.
Omoko further explained that his commitment goes beyond physical projects, stressing that the welfare and happiness of the people remain central to his vision. He said he cannot comfortably enjoy personal wealth and comfort while people around him continue to face hardship and lack basic amenities.
The happiness of the people living around me becomes my joy. I cannot be driving a big jeep while people in my community are suffering. My priority is to develop Opuama Community, Egbema Kingdom and the Niger Delta.
The statement reflects what he described as his philosophy of community-driven development, service and shared prosperity.
Over time, the Bolowei of Egbema Kingdom has personally supported and undertaken several development initiatives in Opuama, with a number of projects reportedly completed while others remain ongoing.
The projects, according to community accounts, form part of his broader effort to improve the social environment, infrastructure and general welfare of residents.
Rather than waiting exclusively for government intervention, Omoko has continued to encourage individuals, community leaders and other stakeholders from Opuama and Egbema Kingdom to contribute according to their capacity.
For Omoko, the development of Opuama is not merely a charitable gesture but an investment in the future of the community and generations yet unborn.
The Niger Delta leader's position also underscores the need for stronger participation by indigenous sons and daughters in the development of oil-producing communities.
Opuama, located within Egbema Kingdom in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, is situated within the Niger Delta's oil-producing environment, where communities continue to demand meaningful development, infrastructure and improved living conditions.
Omoko's message is therefore centred on a simple principle: those who come from a community should not abandon its development solely to government or external intervention.
His continued investment in Opuama, he said, represents his contribution to building a stronger homeland and creating an environment where residents can enjoy greater dignity, opportunity and hope.
As the development efforts continue, the Bolowei of Egbema Kingdom has maintained that his vision extends beyond Opuama to the broader Egbema Kingdom and Niger Delta region, with the ultimate objective of seeing communities within the region benefit from sustainable development and the commitment of their own people.
