POLICE OFFICER KILLED AFTER BEING DRAGGED UNDER LEXUS DURING STOP-AND-SEARCH IN LAGOS,

Lagos — September 26, 2026: A police officer attached to an Anti-Crime Patrol team has reportedly died after he was allegedly hit and dragged underneath a Lexus ES 350 during a stop-and-search operation along Olugbede Street, Egbeda, Lagos.

According to a police situation report, the incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, while the Anti-Crime Patrol team was conducting stop-and-search duties in the area.

The report stated that one of the officers, Sergeant Johnson Okediji, signalled a Lexus ES 350 saloon car with registration number FKJ 223 KX to stop. The vehicle was reportedly driven by Olumide Olusola, aged 21, of Tiwatayo Street, Egbeda, Lagos.

According to the report, the driver initially stopped briefly. However, as Sergeant Okediji approached the driver's side of the vehicle, the driver allegedly accelerated suddenly, hitting the officer and dragging him underneath the vehicle for some distance.

The report further stated that despite shouts from other police officers and members of the public, the driver allegedly failed to stop immediately, while the officer remained underneath the vehicle.

The driver was subsequently pursued and arrested by the police, while the vehicle was recovered to the station.

Sergeant Okediji reportedly sustained multiple fractures to his legs and serious head injuries in the incident. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was stabilised before being transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further treatment.

However, the officer was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival by the medical doctor on duty.

His remains were subsequently removed and deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.

The police said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
