PRESS STATEMENT
EGBEMA FOCUS GROUP CONDEMNS ALLEGED THREATS OF VIOLENCE, CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE SECURITY ACTION OVER WARRI DELINEATION MATTERS
Date: June 2026
The Egbema Focus Group has expressed deep concern over statements allegedly made during a recent press conference by some Itsekiri leaders regarding the ongoing delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, describing such remarks as unfortunate, provocative, and capable of heightening tensions within the affected communities.
Speaking on behalf of the group, National spokenperson comrade Tamaradenyefa Idaji called on the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the National Security Adviser, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, and the Governor of Delta State to urgently investigate the matter and take all necessary measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The group stated that any public declaration suggesting the possession or intended use of firearms and ammunition against fellow citizens must be treated with the seriousness it deserves by relevant security agencies. According to the group, Nigeria's democracy provides lawful avenues for resolving disputes, and no individual or ethnic group should resort to threats, intimidation, or actions capable of undermining peace and stability.
The Egbema Focus Group emphasized that peace remains the foundation of development and coexistence in the Niger Delta region.
"Peace is a priceless treasure that cannot be purchased in any market. History has shown that those who incite conflict are rarely the ones who bear its consequences. It is often innocent men, women, and children who suffer the devastating effects of violence," the statement read.
The group further noted that the Supreme Court judgment ordering a fresh delineation exercise in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas provides a legitimate constitutional opportunity for all communities and stakeholders to present their positions before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The group urged all parties involved to allow INEC to carry out its constitutional responsibilities without interference, threats, or intimidation, stressing that the outcome of the exercise should be determined by facts, evidence, and the rule of law.
The Egbema Focus Group also appealed to Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri, and all other ethnic nationalities in Delta State to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence while the delineation process continues.
The statement concluded with a call on security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that no individual or group takes actions capable of disrupting the peace currently enjoyed in Delta State and the Niger Delta region.
