Oborevwori: Celebrating 63 Years of Statesmanship

By Charles Aniagwu

As Governor Sheriff Oborevwori marks his 63rd birth anniversary on June 19, 2026, Deltans have every reason to celebrate a leader whose public service journey has been defined by humility, resilience, inclusiveness, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.

For more than three decades in public life, and particularly in the last three years as Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has demonstrated that leadership is not merely about occupying office but about inspiring confidence, building consensus, and delivering tangible results that improve the lives of citizens.

His rise from grassroots politics to the highest office in the state is a testament to perseverance, dedication, and an uncommon understanding of the aspirations of ordinary people. It is a journey that reflects the enduring values of hard work, loyalty, and service that have become synonymous with his name.

At 63, Governor Oborevwori stands as one of the most experienced and influential political leaders in contemporary Delta State. His leadership style is anchored on consultation, inclusiveness, and a deep appreciation of the diversity that defines the state. These qualities have enabled him to build bridges across political, ethnic, and social divides while fostering a culture of peace and cooperation.

Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, he has approached governance with a clear vision encapsulated in the MORE Agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. More importantly, he has translated this vision into action through policies and programmes that have touched communities across the state.

His administration has pursued development with a strong sense of purpose, ensuring that progress is not concentrated in a few urban centres but extended to rural and riverine communities. Across Delta State, roads, bridges, schools, healthcare facilities, water projects, and public institutions bear testimony to a government committed to improving the quality of life of its people.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Governor Oborevwori has distinguished himself through his investment in human capital development. Through educational support programmes, healthcare interventions, social welfare initiatives, youth empowerment schemes, and economic support programmes for small businesses and vulnerable groups, his administration has sought to create opportunities for citizens to achieve their full potential.

One of the defining features of his leadership has been his emphasis on peace, unity, and security. In a period marked by economic and social challenges across the nation, Delta State has continued to enjoy relative stability through sustained collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders. His commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes has further strengthened harmony among the various ethnic nationalities that make up the state.

Governor Oborevwori's statesmanship is also reflected in his prudent management of public resources. Through fiscal discipline, strategic planning, and responsible governance, the state has continued to execute major developmental projects while maintaining financial stability. This approach has reinforced public confidence and positioned Delta State as one of the leading sub-national governments in Nigeria.

Perhaps one of his greatest strengths is his accessibility and connection with the people. Despite the demands of high office, he remains closely attuned to the needs and aspirations of Deltans. His ability to listen, engage, and respond to concerns has earned him admiration across different segments of society.

As he celebrates this milestone age of 63, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's life offers valuable lessons in leadership, perseverance, and public service. His journey reminds us that true leadership is measured not by titles held but by lives touched, communities transformed, and opportunities created for future generations.

Today, Deltans celebrate not only the birthday of a Governor but also the enduring legacy of a statesman whose vision, humility, and commitment to service continue to shape the progress of Delta State.

On behalf of the Management and Staff of the Delta State Ministry of Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, I congratulate His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, on his 63rd birth anniversary and wish him continued good health, wisdom, strength, and greater accomplishments in the service of our dear state and nation.

...Calls For Continued Prayers For Leaders

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday marked his 63rd birth anniversary with a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, where he expressed profound gratitude to God for preserving his life and guiding him in leadership.

Speaking during the service, Governor Oborevwori said the occasion was not about elaborate celebrations but about returning thanks to God for His faithfulness and mercy.

Saying he is a committed Christian, the governor said giving thanks to God was more important than any social celebration associated with his birthday.

"I have come here to thank God. The most important thing for me today is to give God thanks because He has kept me and sustained me. Every other celebration is secondary," he said.

The governor appreciated Deltans and his supporters for the goodwill and support they have continued to show him, assuring them of his unwavering commitment to serving the state diligently.

"I thank all those who have shown me love and support over the years. By the grace of God, I will continue to do my best to serve the people of Delta State and justify the confidence reposed in me," Oborevwori stated.

He urged citizens to continue praying for those in positions of authority, stressing that leadership requires divine guidance and wisdom.

Oborevwori said; "Pray for me, pray for the state, and pray for all those in authority. We need your prayers as we continue to serve. I believe that by God's grace, everyone will have an opportunity to fulfil their purpose in life".

Governor Oborevwori also commended the chaplaincy team for their dedication for maintaining regular worship activities at the Government House Chapel.

Earlier in his sermon titled, "What Is Your Prayer to God?", the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemenam, congratulated the governor on attaining the age of 63 and prayed for God's continued guidance upon his life and administration.

Drawing his message from 1 Kings 3:7-12, Osemenam highlighted the importance of seeking wisdom from God, using the example of King Solomon whose request for wisdom pleased God and enabled him to govern effectively.

The cleric noted that Governor Oborevwori had demonstrated a commitment to peace, unity and inclusive leadership across Delta State, adding that such virtues reflected God's grace at work in his life.

According to him, governing a diverse state such as Delta requires divine wisdom, patience and a heart committed to peace.

He commended the governor's efforts in fostering harmony among the various ethnic nationalities and communities in the state and prayed that God would grant him greater wisdom and strength to continue leading the state on the path of peace, progress and development.

The thanksgiving service was attended by family members, government officials, political associates, clergy and worshippers who joined the governor in celebrating the milestone and offering prayers for continued success in his administration.

Highlight of the service was the cutting of the birthday cake by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, supported by his wife, Clerics and top government functionaries.

[6/20, 13:15] Nelson Egware SSA On Media Dts: Aniagwu Hails Oborevwori's Rural Devt Drive on Completion of Emevor-Orogun Road Phase II

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his sustained commitment to rural infrastructure development following the completion of Phase II of the Emevor-Orogun Road project in Isoko North Local Government Area.

Speaking after inspecting the project, Aniagwu described the successful completion of the road as another milestone in the implementation of Governor Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda, which prioritises meaningful development and improved access to communities across the state.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by the contractor, Emorock Concepts Limited, noting that the project reflects the administration's determination to provide durable and functional infrastructure in rural areas.

He praised the indigenous construction firm for adhering to specifications and maintaining high standards throughout the execution of the project, adding that local contractors have continued to demonstrate their capacity to deliver major infrastructure projects efficiently.

Aniagwu disclosed that extensive earthworks, drainage construction and soil replacement were undertaken to ensure the durability of the road, particularly in swampy sections of the corridor.

According to him, specialised equipment, including swamp buggies, were deployed to overcome difficult terrain and guarantee quality delivery.

He noted that the project had reached completion, with only minor finishing works such as road markings and final adjustments to drainage facilities remaining before it is presented to Governor Oborevwori for commissioning.

The commissioner directed the contractor to immediately clear blocked drains and complete outstanding concrete works at designated discharge points to ensure the effective flow of stormwater into adjoining swamps.

He also ordered the reconstruction of a few damaged concrete slabs, explaining that some sections were affected by premature use before the concrete had fully cured.

"On the whole, I am very impressed with the amount of work done and the quality of execution. The contractor worked according to schedule and was able to overcome weather-related challenges because the earthworks and stone base were completed before the peak of the rainy season," Aniagwu said.

He observed that despite heavy rainfall during the construction period, the contractor successfully completed critical stages of the project on time, allowing work to progress steadily to completion.

Reaffirming the governor's commitment to extending development to every part of Delta State, Aniagwu said projects such as the Emevor-Orogun Road have significantly improved connectivity, enhanced economic activities and opened up rural communities to greater opportunities.

He recounted interactions with residents during the inspection, including a visually impaired man who expressed appreciation for the smooth road surface, describing the encounter as evidence of the positive impact of the project on the lives of ordinary people.

Aniagwu also explained that road drainage systems are designed based on engineering assessments and technical requirements rather than aesthetics, stressing that drains are constructed only where necessary to channel water effectively.

He cautioned residents against obstructing drainage channels with sand or other materials, warning that such actions could compromise the integrity of road infrastructure and lead to flooding.

The commissioner assured residents that all necessary finishing works would be completed before the project is formally inaugurated, adding that Governor Oborevwori remains committed to delivering sustainable infrastructure and opening up more rural communities across Delta State through strategic development projects.
